So lets start off by saying that there seems to be so many new online coaches out there, which there are and rightfully so…because it is a better business model that one-to-one coaching or PT work.
Now don’t get me wrong, PT and Coaching work is an absolute necessity and I still believe that it should be part of a GP’s referral for any health-related illnesses caused by obesity or unhealthy lifestyles. And whilst we are heading in the right direction to being seen as a vital part of the prevention and recovery process, there is still one problem…
PTs still need to sell their most valuable commodity (TIME) for money, and How you value your time will largely determine your comfort of living.
Now, you see with One to One coaching, BUSINESS DICTATES FITNESS!
This is wrong…how can every single individual in the world all require less than an hour of training, every individual is different, and some require less or more time to really achieve the most out of their training abilities.
Some 30 minutes and some 75 minutes, now because a PT needs to book in hour session, “BUSINESS DICTATES FITNESS”.
You see where I am going with this, it should be the other way around where FITNESS DICTATES BUSINESS.
And that’s why Online coaching business model is far superior in my opinion. Because you are not waking up 5am in the am for a measly £50 and you are not forcing your clients to train in a certain amount of time when they could be doing more or less.
Of course, this is circumstantial, and everyone is different, some love and need to be coached, and a great coach will understand the benefits of both and be able to ensure the client is receiving their utmost support in and out of the gym. Not just for that 1 hour of being paid. Because as we all know, it’s the other 23 hours of the day that are more important to fat loss and where majority of our clients need more support than ever.
So again, I will say, the online market looks saturated, but it is not!
If you walk down the road and ask the general public if they know what an online coach is, majority of them will say they don’t know.
It just seems saturated, because you are stuck or based yourself in a similar sort of fitness community.
If you hang around and only ever socialise in a fitness model or a personal training community then of course it’s going to be saturated, step out of the norm and contact other communities.
Every single community, whether its musicians, sport teams, corporate whatever, they all need to be fit and healthy, they are begging for someone like you to come and offer your help. They just don’t know where to start and ask for help.
My first tip is to
1. REACH OUT
Reach out to different communities, get out of that village mentality and realise there is a so many more opportunities out there.
“BECOME A SCIENTIST OF YOUR LIFE, EXPIREMENT, AND I GUARANTEE YOU WILL LEARN A LOT ABOUT YOU.” (Phil Graham)
You need to have a clear vision of your goals. You will be overwhelmed with all the opportunities out there if you are not focused on one thing. I always tell people to rather focus and put all their energy into one thing and become a master or a specialist at it.
Find your niche.
As Bruce Lee once said, “I FEAR NOT THE MAN WHO HAS PRACTISED 1000 KICKS ONE TIME, BUT I FEAR THE MAN WHO HAS PRACTICED ONE KICK A 1000 TIMES”
3. REASSESS YOUR VALUE
Every year I re-evaluate my time, I sit down and work on a plan for the next year coming and that’s starts with how I value my time. It is key thing to change your prices when in demand.
Results matter and if you are helping achieve this consistently throughout the year then you have every right to value yourself more than you were before.
“MONEY FLOWS FROM THOSE WHO VALUE IT LEAST TO THOSE THAT VALUE IT MORE.”
4. INVEST IN YOUR BUSINESS (PAID TRAFFIC)
The old cliché saying of you have to spend money to make money, could not be truer than right now.
Its amazing investing in yourself in courses to further your knowledge but this does not matter unless you have the same mindset to your business growth.
Things like Facebook ads, flyers, shout outs etc, are amazing tools to help get your name out there and show the world how much knowledge you have invested in yourself.
You see social media is by far the greatest tool and online business could use, but unfortunately there is always a catch… or two!
The algorithm that only helps the already famous or more popular accounts be seen by the general public is a bitch! It does not favour the lesser known or the lesser active. And even if you are successful in getting onto the infamous explore page, in a matter of 24 hours you will be so far down the feed, people would have to put on a pot of coffee and spend an “all nighter” just to find it.
So, if you are not posting regularly then you will lose voice and that is detrimental to an online coach!
Hence where paid Traffic comes in…
Invest around £10 for 2 days on Instagram or Facebook ads and you should get a rough idea if the ad is working. Using the analytics provided you can see what demographic you targeted and how successful it has been.
This is a great way to stay on your targeted audiences feed, so even if you are struggling for content, your voice is being heard!
Look at other people’s traffic, like utilising shout outs on their feeds to their followers. Or if you are a PT or coach in the local gym, ensure you go around building relationships and referral schemes with the local physios, Doctors or even hairdressers. They are all linked with health and beauty!
This is a touchy subject, but you need to cull more!
There are people out there that are tapping into your energy whether you want to admit it or not!
Not only do they ruin your engagement (which is your primary concern) by not interacting, sometimes they psychologically stop you from posting content as you are more concerned of what they have to say or think than you just spreading your message!
6. PUBLIC SPEAKING AND LEAVING YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR
One of the best things for an online coach or aspiring PT is to leave their ego at the door, you need to realise that as much as you think you know now, every single year you will blow your mind with how much you learn.
So saying that, trust me, find yourself a mentor or at least a few people out there that you admire and have been doing this for a while. Invest in their courses, webinars, seminars or even podcast and learn!
These guys are usually cramming 15-20 years of building a successful business in the fitness industry all in a few hours or a weekend. They only pick the essentials that they believe has helped them get where they are today!
Then utilise this knowledge to grow your own business, to get your message and ethos across. Now I am not saying copy anyone, because what works for one person might not work for others, but you don’t need to reinvent the wheel, calories in and calories out, progressive overload etc
All information out there now has all been regurgitated in some form or another, it’s how you process that information and then share it that will define you as a coach!
So, ensure you use things like IGTV and YOUTUBE to not only help get your message out to a much larger audience, but you will also become better at public speaking every single time you practice.
And this will only help you sell yourself and your services later.
So, forget what other people think of you and ask for help if needed, listen and absorb like a sponge any free information that can help you become more successful.
I have learned so much from listening to the likes of Phil Graham, Mark Coles and Phil Learney.
I recommend any aspiring Pt, Online coach or gym owner to do the same!
